The title was a huge success in French intellectual circles, because Pauwels and Bergier had founded the magazine Planète that the time had 80,000 subscribers and more than 100,000 buyers, which is remarkable given the price of the magazine. This was followed in 1968 'Impossible Possibilities' and 'The Everlasting Man' (Bertrand trd. Books) in 1970.
It was the era of 'black cover books' and gold letters that appeared in cascade and whose quality ranged from the pure silliness and technical rehearsal. At the dawn of a new paradigm emerged the "Fantastic Realism."
There was very interesting work, lost in the jumble of quackery that has invaded the market, as the works of Robert Charroux and Erich von Daniken, among many others.
